A well-known brand in the sweepstakes casino industry will soon shut its site down, although it’s not yet clear if this will be a permanent closure or a temporary one.
Gold Treasure Casino, from Miracle Studio Inc., emailed its players over the weekend that it plans to shut down “while we take time to evaluate and plan the next chapter of the platform.”
This type of news is hardly rare nowadays, as sweepstakes casinos across the industry — but particularly the smaller or independent operators — grapple with the reality of fighting to survive a future with mounting restrictions tightening the total addressable sweeps market, with notable exclusions of jurisdictions like California, New York, and New Jersey.
Those three were among the states to ban sweepstakes casinos in 2025. The list hasn’t been as painful in 2026, with bans passed in only Maine, Indiana, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Louisiana, but any restriction will be felt by platforms operating on slimmer margins.
‘This is not necessarily goodbye forever’
Here’s what the email from Gold Treasure Casino — which contained the subject line “Important Update Regarding Gold Treasure Casino” — said.
Dear Gold Treasure Casino Pirates,
We want to thank every single one of you for being part of our journey and community. At this time, Gold Treasure Casino will be temporarily shutting down operations while we take time to evaluate and plan the next chapter of the platform.
This is not necessarily goodbye forever – we may return in the future stronger and better than ever.
Please note that all players have 10 days from today to redeem any redeemable funds remaining in their accounts. After this period, redemption requests may no longer be available while the platform is inactive.
We truly appreciate all the support, excitement, and memories shared with us along the way. Thank you for being part of Gold Treasure Casino.
We will continue to provide updates if there are any future developments.
The Gold Treasure Casino Crew
Note that in the email, Gold Treasure Casino keeps the door open for a future re-launch. And mentioning “the next chapter of the platform” suggests Miracle Studio Inc. may be tinkering with a new structure around which to build the next iteration of Gold Treasure Casino.
In other words: Might the operator pivot away from the traditional dual-currency gaming model that’s the target of most bills banning sweeps casinos these days?
Different responses from operators so far
We’re now two years into this recent wave of increased scrutiny on the sweepstakes casino industry, and operators have responded in a variety of forms. Those responses can best be broken down into eight main categories:
- Single-currency model — Some operators, namely ClubWPT Gold and Card Crush, have pivoted to get rid of the problematic dual-currency model of Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins and, instead, offer a single-currency model where casino-style gaming is technically not the main focal point of the platform.
- Live bingo — Some operators, including Ruby Sweeps with Ruby Bingo Live, have added live real-money online bingo to their offerings.
- Advance deposit wagering games — Some operators, including HorsePlay, are now offering real-money online casino games where the results are dictated by horse racing results. Think, online versions of the historical horse racing machines you see in racinos in states like Kentucky. These offerings are backed by a recent lawsuit won by TwinSpires in Michigan, which used the federal Interstate Horse Racing Act as precedent.
- Subscriptions — Funzpoints recently whipped out the latest spin on sweeps gaming with Thrillaroo, a platform that charges a subscription fee for players but then will refund those players’ losses if those losses outweigh winnings during the subscription period.
- Gamification — Some operators are trying to gamify new elements on their sites that have nothing to do with casino-style gaming. Modo.us, for example, launched Modo Boxes, a mystery-box platform separate from its sweepstakes casino games. Users buy Box Tickets to open randomized boxes containing physical products, digital rewards, or Gold Coins. Every box guarantees a prize allegedly worth at least the purchase price.
- Diversifying and building — Some operators have responded by doubling down on their portfolio, adding to their traditional dual-currency sweepstakes casino library. VGW, for example, launched a fourth site, LuckyLand Casino, and will soon launch a fifth in United Slots. BlazeSoft, which owns Zula Casino and Yay Casino among others, added WinBonanza in April. MW Services Limited, which owns WOW Vegas and Rolla Casino, just launched another brand in CoinsBack Casino.
- Standing pat — Some operators are not changing a thing.
- Shutting down — Betty Sweeps and Mega Frenzy stand out as two of the most notable sweepstakes casinos to exit the market, recently. They joined a growing list of platforms that have ceased operations throughout 2026, including Vegas Coins, Kickr, LuckyStars Casino, OnPoint Casino, Turbo Stakes Casino, GummyPlay Casino, Starlight Casino, Bitsler.io, and Vivaro.us. And, now, Gold Treasure Casino. At least for now.
Quick change after launch in early 2025
Gold Treasure Casino launched recently — in early 2025. And the platform (at least temporary) closing its doors already in May 2026. That fast of a change reflects the increasingly difficult environment facing sweepstakes casinos.
This industry, once characterized by rapid growth, appears to be in a period more defined by pressure, consolidation, and higher operating costs.
And, really, beyond the regulatory and legal pressure, Gold Treasure Casino’s shutdown also highlights how crowded the market has become. Smaller brands now face rising marketing expenses, compliance costs, payment-processing challenges, and increased scrutiny from regulators and players alike.
Established operators are increasingly positioned to survive while weaker or newer brands may struggle.
