With the new year came a new wrinkle to the gaming ecosystem at Modo.us.
As Sweepsy reported would happen in December, the popular sweepstakes casino from ARB Interactive unveiled its new loyalty program called Modo Stars on Jan. 1. Until now, we could only provide educated speculation as to what the Modo Stars system would entail.
Now we have those details.
And, all in all, Modo Stars supplies a clean, well-thought-out loyalty layer that can also act as a way for players in states like California and New York to still garner rewards now that the traditional dual-currency model is illegal at sweepstakes casinos in those states — and more.
Gold Coin gameplay can earn Gold Coin packages in Modo Stars system
Put simply, Modo Stars is a system designed to incentivize Gold Coin play.
Players can earn Modo Stars via a number of methods, including sharing your achievements on social media networks like Facebook, but the primary driver is simply playing games with Gold Coins. The loop is straightforward: Play more games with Gold Coins, accumulate more Modo Stars. Those Modo Stars cannot be used for gameplay. Instead, they can then be redeemed in the Modo Stars Store for Gold Coin packages — which come with Sweeps Coins — or gift cards, although those aren’t available for redeeming yet.
(Important to note: These Gold Coin packages will not come with Sweeps Coins in states where sweeps play is now banned, such as California and New York. Players in those states can only redeem for rewards — more on these later — and gift cards.)
The redemption rates scale up predictably. At the low end, 50,000 Moto Stars gets you 17,500 Gold Coins and 5 Sweeps Coins. At the higher end, 700,000 Stars unlocks 300,000 GC and 70 SC. At the top end, 30 million Modo Stars gets you 40 million Gold Coins and 3,000 Sweeps Coins. And, again, Modo.us also plans to add gift card redemptions as an option, too.
“Say hello to Modo Stars, a brand-new way to get rewarded,” a Jan. 1 email from Modo.us reads. “Earn Stars through Gold Coin play and redeem them in the Modo Stars Store for rewards like Gold Coin packages. And this is only the beginning — more ways to use Modo Stars are on the way.”
What about flights and concert tickets?
Modo Stars are also connected to a new broader loyalty framework called Modo Rank, which includes Loyalty Points and tiered VIP levels: Steel, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond, Cosmic Diamond, and Black Diamond (this one is invite-only). While details are still thin, the language of Modo’s terms and conditions suggests traditional VIP-style perks for players who move up the Modo Rank ladder.
“If accepted into a VIP Rank program you may receive and/or be offered certain things of value,” the terms say, “including tickets, flights, accommodations, and admission to special events, discounted items, and/or other tangible or intangible benefits.”
Beyond redemptions in the Modo Stars Store, the terms also indicate players will be able to redeem Modo Stars for some of these “Rewards” that are tied to the Modo Rank loyalty system.
Here’s what the terms say: “If you participate in any of our Rewards Partners’ rewards programs, the Modo Stars you accumulate through your use of the Service may be exchanged for items, services, or experiences (each a “Reward”) offered by such Rewards Partners through those programs.”
Again, no word yet on who those “Rewards Partners” will be.
This type of rewards system — with prizes like flights, cruises, concert tickets, etc. — mirrors the loyalty ecosystems used by the largest social casino gaming companies, like PLAYSTUDIOS and even Light & Wonder, the latter of which is a vocal sweeps gaming opponent.
Modo Stars vs. other sweeps operator decisions
From a regulatory perspective, this structure may be more defensible than the single-currency experiments like Card Crush or ClubWPT Gold. In those models, players can still purchase items (Mystery Boxes that come with Mystery Coins at Card Crush; Hand Analysis credits that come with Chips at ClubWPT Gold) that allow them to acquire redeemable currency similar to Sweeps Coins, even in restrictive states like California or New York.
With Modo Stars, players in California, New York, New Jersey, and other jurisdictions that outlawed Sweeps Coin gameplay in 2025 still can’t acquire Sweeps Coins in any way, but they can be in line to earn other types of rewards with their Modo Stars.
The result is a system that encourages users to stay active, spend time on-platform, and keep playing with Gold Coins to generate more Modo Stars. Even stripped down to basics, it’s an effective way to maintain engagement in states where sweeps gameplay is off-limits. And, beyond that, it’s a worthwhile addition to the overall Modo.us ecosystem, regardless of what currencies players are able to use in their state.
